[446] Now at that time a certain bhikkhu had committed two saṅghādisesa offenses (āpatti) concealed for two months. He thought: "I have committed two saṅghādisesa offenses concealed for two months. Suppose I were to ask the Saṅgha for two months' probation (parivāsa) for one offense concealed for two months." He asked the Saṅgha for two months' probation for one offense concealed for two months. The Saṅgha gave him two months' probation for that one offense concealed for two months. While he was undergoing probation, a sense of shame (lajjidhamma) came over him: "I have committed two saṅghādisesa offenses concealed for two months. It occurred to me: 'I have committed two saṅghādisesa offenses concealed for two months. Suppose I were to ask the Saṅgha for two months' probation for one offense concealed for two months.' I asked the Saṅgha for two months' probation for one offense concealed for two months. The Saṅgha gave me two months' probation for that one offense concealed for two months. While I was undergoing probation, a sense of shame came over me. Suppose I were to ask the Saṅgha for two months' probation for the other offense also, concealed for two months."
He informed the bhikkhus: "Friends, I committed two saṅghādisesa offenses concealed for two months. It occurred to me: 'I have committed two saṅghādisesa offenses concealed for two months. Suppose I were to ask the Saṅgha for two months' probation for one offense concealed for two months.' I asked the Saṅgha for two months' probation for one offense concealed for two months. The Saṅgha gave me two months' probation for that one offense concealed for two months. While I was undergoing probation, a sense of shame came over me: 'I have committed two saṅghādisesa offenses concealed for two months. It occurred to me: "I have committed two saṅghādisesa offenses concealed for two months. Suppose I were to ask the Saṅgha for two months' probation for one offense concealed for two months." I asked the Saṅgha for two months' probation for one offense concealed for two months. The Saṅgha gave me two months' probation for that one offense concealed for two months. While I was undergoing probation, a sense of shame came over me. Suppose I were to ask the Saṅgha for two months' probation for the other offense also, concealed for two months.' How, then, should I proceed?" Those bhikkhus reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Well then, bhikkhus, let the Saṅgha give that bhikkhu two months' probation for the other offense also, concealed for two months."
