[445] The Saṅgha should be informed by a competent (byatta), capable bhikkhu:
"Venerable sirs, let the Saṅgha hear me. This bhikkhu named so-and-so has committed several saṅghādisesa offenses: one offense concealed for one day … ten offenses concealed for ten days. He requests from the Saṅgha, in respect of those offenses, combined probation (samodhānaparivāsa) according to the value of those among the offenses that have been concealed longest of all. If it is the right time for the Saṅgha, the Saṅgha may grant to the bhikkhu named so-and-so, in respect of those offenses, combined probation according to the value of those among the offenses that have been concealed longest of all. This is the motion (ñatti).
"Venerable sirs, let the Saṅgha hear me. This bhikkhu named so-and-so has committed several saṅghādisesa offenses: one offense concealed for one day … ten offenses concealed for ten days. He requests from the Saṅgha, in respect of those offenses, combined probation according to the value of those among the offenses that have been concealed longest of all. The Saṅgha grants to the bhikkhu named so-and-so, in respect of those offenses, combined probation according to the value of those among the offenses that have been concealed longest of all. Whichever venerable one approves of the granting to the bhikkhu named so-and-so, in respect of those offenses, of combined probation according to the value of those among the offenses that have been concealed longest of all, let him be silent; whoever does not approve, let him speak.
"A second time I speak this matter …. A third time I speak this matter ….
"Combined probation according to the value of those among the offenses that have been concealed longest of all, in respect of those offenses, has been granted by the Saṅgha to the bhikkhu named so-and-so. The Saṅgha approves; therefore it is silent. Thus do I hold it."
