[482] Bhikkhus, here a bhikkhu deserving of penance (mānatta) disrobes (vibbhamati). Bhikkhus, the giving of penance to one who has disrobed does not take effect. If he receives full ordination (upasampadā) again, that same former giving of probation (parivāsa) still stands for him. The probation that was given is well given; that which was observed is well observed. That bhikkhu should be given penance.
