[487] Bhikkhus, here a bhikkhu deserving rehabilitation (abbhāna) is a novice (sāmaṇera) … is insane … is deranged in mind (citta) … is afflicted by feeling (vedanā) … is suspended for not seeing an offence … is suspended for not making amends for an offence … is suspended for not relinquishing an evil view. Bhikkhus, rehabilitation of one who is suspended is not valid. If he is reinstated again, that very same former granting of probation (parivāsa) stands for him. The probation that was granted is well granted; that which was observed is well observed. The penance (mānatta) that was granted is well granted; the penance that was undertaken is well undertaken. That bhikkhu should be rehabilitated.
