[549] Bhikkhus, here again, a bhikkhu who is undergoing probation (parivāsa), having in the interval committed several saṅghādisesa offences (āpatti) and not having concealed them, becomes a novice (sāmaṇera) … becomes mad … becomes deranged in mind … becomes afflicted by feeling … He has offences both concealed and unconcealed; as probation has been elaborated, so it should be elaborated here. … He knows of some offences, he does not know of some offences … He remembers some offences, he does not remember some offences … He is free from doubt about some offences, he is in doubt about some offences. Those offences about which he is free from doubt, those offences he conceals; those offences about which he is in doubt, those offences he does not conceal. He becomes afflicted by feeling. When he has again become free from affliction by feeling: those offences which, being free from doubt, he concealed before — those offences, being free from doubt, he does not conceal afterwards; those offences which, being in doubt, he did not conceal before — those offences, being free from doubt, he does not conceal afterwards … Those offences which, being free from doubt, he concealed before — those offences, being free from doubt, he does not conceal afterwards; those offences which, being in doubt, he did not conceal before — those offences, being free from doubt, he conceals afterwards … Those offences which, being free from doubt, he concealed before — those offences, being free from doubt, he conceals afterwards; those offences which, being in doubt, he did not conceal before — those offences, being free from doubt, he does not conceal afterwards … Those offences which, being free from doubt, he concealed before — those offences, being free from doubt, he conceals afterwards; those offences which, being in doubt, he did not conceal before — those offences, being free from doubt, he conceals afterwards. That bhikkhu should be sent back to the beginning (mūlāya paṭikassitabbo), and combined probation (samodhānaparivāsa) should be given him for his offences according as they were concealed, together with the earlier offence.
