[143] The Saṅgha should be informed by a competent and capable bhikkhu:
"Venerable sirs, let the Saṅgha hear me. This bhikkhu named so-and-so is sick; he is not able to walk about without a staff (daṇḍa), and not able to carry his bowl about without a sling (sikkā). He requests from the Saṅgha the authorization for a staff and sling (daṇḍasikkā-sammati). If it is the right time for the Saṅgha, let the Saṅgha give the authorization for a staff and sling to the bhikkhu named so-and-so. This is the motion (ñatti).
"Venerable sirs, let the Saṅgha hear me. This bhikkhu named so-and-so is sick; he is not able to walk about without a staff, and not able to carry his bowl about without a sling. He requests from the Saṅgha the authorization for a staff and sling. The Saṅgha gives the authorization for a staff and sling to the bhikkhu named so-and-so. Whichever venerable one approves of the giving of the authorization for a staff and sling to the bhikkhu named so-and-so, let him be silent; whoever does not approve, let him speak.
"The authorization for a staff and sling has been given by the Saṅgha to the bhikkhu named so-and-so. It is approved by the Saṅgha; therefore it is silent. Thus do I hold it."
