[208] Now at that time bhikkhus slept on the bare ground. Their limbs and their robes became soiled with dust. They reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, I allow a grass spread (tiṇasanthārikā)." The grass spread was eaten by rats and by termites. … "Bhikkhus, I allow a solid platform (miḍhi)." On the solid platform their limbs became sore. … "Bhikkhus, I allow a small bed of split bamboo (vidalamañcaka)."
