[320] Now at that time bhikkhus spat¹ on a floor that had been given a finished surface (parikammakatā bhūmi); the appearance was spoiled. They reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, one should not spit on a floor that has been given a finished surface. Whoever should spit there commits an offense of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa). Bhikkhus, I allow a spittoon (kheḷamallaka)."
