[234] Now at that time the dwellings (vihāra) had no porches and afforded no shelter. They informed the Blessed One of this matter. "Bhikkhus, I allow a porch (ālinda), a terrace before the entrance (paghana), an inner verandah (pakuṭṭa), and an overhanging gallery (osāraka)."
The porches were exposed to view. Bhikkhus were ashamed to lie down … "Bhikkhus, I allow a sliding screen (saṃsaraṇakiṭikā) and a screen that can be raised and removed (ugghāṭanakiṭikā)."
