[476] What are the four legitimate (dhammika) suspensions of the Pātimokkha (pātimokkhaṭṭhapana)? One suspends the Pātimokkha on account of a failure in virtue (sīlavipatti) that has grounds; one suspends the Pātimokkha on account of a failure in conduct (ācāravipatti) that has grounds; one suspends the Pātimokkha on account of a failure in view (diṭṭhivipatti) that has grounds; one suspends the Pātimokkha on account of a failure in livelihood (ājīvavipatti) that has grounds. These are the four legitimate suspensions of the Pātimokkha.
