[480] Which are the six legitimate (dhammika) suspensions of the Pātimokkha (pātimokkhaṭṭhapana)? One suspends the Pātimokkha on account of a failure in virtue (sīlavipatti) that has grounds (samūlikā) but has not been committed (akatā); one suspends the Pātimokkha on account of a failure in virtue that has grounds and has been committed (katā); one suspends the Pātimokkha on account of a failure in conduct (ācāravipatti) that has grounds but has not been committed; one suspends the Pātimokkha on account of a failure in conduct that has grounds and has been committed; one suspends the Pātimokkha on account of a failure in view (diṭṭhivipatti) that has grounds but has not been committed; one suspends the Pātimokkha on account of a failure in view that has grounds and has been committed. These are the six legitimate suspensions of the Pātimokkha.
