[582] Now at that time bhikkhunīs in the refectory, hesitating over the seats,¹ let the mealtime pass. They informed the Blessed One of this matter. "Bhikkhus (bhikkhave), I allow (seating) for eight bhikkhunīs according to seniority, and for the remaining ones according to order of arrival."²
¹ The Siam edition reads *saṅgāyantiyo*; M. *saṅkasāyantiyo* ("hesitating, holding back"); Yu. *saṅkāyantiyo*. The rendering follows the sense of *saṅkasāyati* ("to hesitate, be irresolute").
