[11] "Or just as some honorable ascetics and brahmins, while enjoying food given in faith, remain devoted to seeing shows (visūkadassana) of such a kind — that is: dancing, singing, instrumental music, theatrical performances, story-recitations, hand-clapping music, vetāḷa music, pot-drum music (kumbhathūna), scenic art displays (sobhanagaraka), acrobatic feats of caṇḍālas, bamboo-pole acrobatics, bone-washing, elephant fights, horse fights, buffalo fights, bull fights, goat fights, ram fights, cock fights, quail fights, fighting with staves, fist-fighting, wrestling, sham battles, troop roll-calls, battle arrays, and reviews of regiments — the ascetic Gotama abstains from seeing shows of such a kind." Thus indeed, bhikkhus, might an ordinary person (puthujjana) speak, when speaking praise of the Tathāgata.
