[117] Or whereas some honorable ascetics and brahmins, having eaten food given in faith, make their living by a wrong livelihood, by base arts (tiracchānavijjā) such as these — that is to say: predicting, 'There will be an eclipse of the moon; there will be an eclipse of the sun; there will be an eclipse of a constellation (nakkhatta); the moon and sun will keep to their course; the moon and sun will stray from their course; the constellations will keep to their course; the constellations will stray from their course; there will be a fall of meteors; there will be a burning of the horizon; there will be an earthquake; there will be thunder in the heavens; there will be a rising, a setting, a darkening, a brightening of the moon, the sun, and the constellations; an eclipse of the moon will have such-and-such a result; an eclipse of the sun will have such-and-such a result; an eclipse of a constellation will have such-and-such a result; the moon and sun keeping to their course will have such-and-such a result; the moon and sun straying from their course will have such-and-such a result; the constellations keeping to their course will have such-and-such a result; the constellations straying from their course will have such-and-such a result; a fall of meteors will have such-and-such a result; a burning of the horizon will have such-and-such a result; an earthquake will have such-and-such a result; thunder in the heavens will have such-and-such a result; the rising, setting, darkening, and brightening of the moon, the sun, and the constellations will have such-and-such a result' — or the like: he abstains from such wrong livelihood by base arts of this kind.
