[130] Now at that time a certain bhikkhu, having seen goods by day, made a mark (nimitta), thinking, "I shall steal it by night." Perceiving it as that very thing, he stole it. Remorse arose in him … "Bhikkhu, you have committed an offense (āpatti) entailing pārājika." … Perceiving it as that thing, he stole another … Perceiving it as another, he stole that thing … Perceiving it as another, he stole another … Remorse arose in him … "Bhikkhu, you have committed an offense entailing pārājika."
Now at that time a certain bhikkhu, having seen goods by day, made a mark, thinking, "I shall steal it by night." Perceiving it as that thing, he stole his own goods. Remorse arose in him … "Bhikkhu, there is no offense entailing pārājika; there is an offense of dukkaṭa."
