[140] Now at that time a certain bhikkhu, having seen a requisite (parikkhāra) during the day, made a sign (nimitta), thinking, "I shall steal it at night." Perceiving it as that very one, he stole it … Perceiving it as that one, he stole another … Perceiving it as another, he stole that one … Perceiving it as another, he stole another. He was remorseful … "Bhikkhu, you have committed an offense (āpatti) of pārājika."
Now at that time a certain bhikkhu, having seen a requisite during the day, made a sign, thinking, "I shall steal it at night." Perceiving it as that one, he stole his own requisite. He was remorseful … "Bhikkhu, there is no offense of pārājika; there is an offense of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa)."
