[598] That bhikkhu should be admonished. And thus, bhikkhus, should he be admonished: the Saṅgha should be informed by a competent and capable bhikkhu:
"Venerable sirs, let the Saṅgha listen to me. This bhikkhu named so-and-so is striving for the schism of the united Saṅgha. He does not relinquish that matter. If it is the proper time for the Saṅgha, let the Saṅgha admonish the bhikkhu named so-and-so for the relinquishing of that matter. This is the motion (ñatti).
"Venerable sirs, let the Saṅgha listen to me. This bhikkhu named so-and-so is striving for the schism of the united Saṅgha. He does not relinquish that matter. The Saṅgha admonishes the bhikkhu named so-and-so for the relinquishing of that matter. Whichever venerable one approves of the admonition of the bhikkhu named so-and-so for the relinquishing of that matter, let him remain silent; whoever does not approve, let him speak.
"For a second time also I declare this matter. … For a third time also I declare this matter. Venerable sirs, let the Saṅgha listen to me. This bhikkhu named so-and-so is striving for the schism of the united Saṅgha. He does not relinquish that matter. The Saṅgha admonishes the bhikkhu named so-and-so for the relinquishing of that matter. Whichever venerable one approves of the admonition of the bhikkhu named so-and-so for the relinquishing of that matter, let him remain silent; whoever does not approve, let him speak.
"The bhikkhu named so-and-so has been admonished by the Saṅgha for the relinquishing of that matter. The Saṅgha approves; therefore it is silent. Thus I hold it."
