SaṅghādisesakaṇḍaSaṅghādisessikkhābada

Vinayapiṭaka · Bhikkhu Vibhaṅga (1) · Vol. 1 · Section 629

[629] For the motion (ñatti), there is an offense of wrongdoing (dukkaṭa); for each of the two proclamations of the act (kammavācā), there are grave offenses (thullaccaya); at the conclusion of the proclamation of the act, there is an offense entailing the initial and subsequent meeting of the Saṅgha (saṅghādisesa). For one who is committing the saṅghādisesa, the offense of wrongdoing (dukkaṭa) for the motion and the grave offenses (thullaccaya) for the two proclamations of the act subside. "Saṅghādisesa" means: the Saṅgha itself gives probation (parivāsa) for that offense, sends back to the beginning (mūlāya paṭikassati), gives penance (mānatta), and rehabilitates (abbheti) — not a number of persons, not a single person. Therefore it is called "saṅghādisesa." Further, it is the naming, the designation, of that very class of offenses; for that reason too it is called "saṅghādisesa."
