[273] And what, bhikkhus, is right action (sammākammanta) that is noble, taintless (anāsava), supramundane (lokuttara), a factor of the path (maggaṅga)? Bhikkhus, in one whose mind (citta) is noble, whose mind is without taints (āsava), who possesses the noble path and is developing the noble path: the desisting, the abstaining, the refraining, the abstinence from the three kinds of bodily misconduct — this, bhikkhus, is right action that is noble, taintless, supramundane, a factor of the path.
He makes an effort to abandon wrong action and to attain right action; that effort of his is right effort (sammāvāyāma).
Mindfully (sato) he abandons wrong action; mindfully he enters upon and dwells in right action; that mindfulness of his is right mindfulness (sammāsati).
Thus these three things run around and revolve around right action, namely: right view (sammādiṭṭhi), right effort, and right mindfulness.
