[261] And what, bhikkhus, is right intention (sammāsaṅkappa)? Right intention, bhikkhus, I say, is twofold: there is, bhikkhus, right intention that is accompanied by taints (āsava) (sāsava), partaking of merit (puññabhāgiya), ripening in acquisitions (upadhivepakka); and there is, bhikkhus, right intention that is noble (ariya), taintless (anāsava), supramundane (lokuttara), a factor of the path (maggaṅga).
