[277] Bhikkhus, what is right livelihood (sammā-ājīva) that is affected by taints (āsava), partaking of merit, ripening in acquisitions (upadhi)? Here, bhikkhus, a noble disciple, having abandoned wrong livelihood (micchā-ājīva), makes his living by right livelihood. This, bhikkhus, is right livelihood that is affected by taints, partaking of merit, ripening in acquisitions.
