[538] "And how, friends, does one run back to the past? Thinking, 'I had such form (rūpa) in the past,' one pursues delight therein; thinking, 'I had such feeling (vedanā) in the past,' one pursues delight therein; thinking, 'I had such perception (saññā) in the past,' one pursues delight therein; thinking, 'I had such volitional formations (saṅkhārā) in the past,' one pursues delight therein; thinking, 'I had such consciousness (viññāṇa) in the past,' one pursues delight therein. It is thus, friends, that one runs back to the past."
