[1103] "Bhikkhus, for the direct knowledge, for the full understanding, for the utter destruction, and for the abandoning of these five higher fetters (uddhambhāgiyāni saṃyojanāni), the five powers (bala) are to be developed. What five? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu develops the power of faith (saddhā) based upon seclusion, based upon dispassion, based upon cessation (nirodha), maturing in relinquishment; he develops the power of energy (vīriya), the power of mindfulness (sati), the power of concentration (samādhi), and the power of wisdom (paññā) based upon seclusion, based upon dispassion, based upon cessation, maturing in relinquishment. Bhikkhus, for the direct knowledge, for the full understanding, for the utter destruction, and for the abandoning of these five higher fetters, these five powers are to be developed."
