[130] And how, bhikkhus, does a bhikkhu who has a good friend (kalyāṇamitta) develop the Noble Eightfold Path (ariyaṃ aṭṭhaṅgikaṃ maggaṃ), how does he cultivate the Noble Eightfold Path? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu develops right view (sammādiṭṭhi) based upon seclusion (viveka), based upon dispassion (virāga), based upon cessation (nirodha), maturing in relinquishment (vossaggapariṇāmiṃ) … he develops right concentration (sammāsamādhi) based upon seclusion, based upon dispassion, based upon cessation, maturing in relinquishment. It is in this way, bhikkhus, that a bhikkhu who has a good friend develops the Noble Eightfold Path and cultivates the Noble Eightfold Path.
