[1603] Bhikkhus, there are these four streams of merit (puññābhisanda), streams of the wholesome (kusalābhisanda), nutriments of happiness (sukhassāhāra). What four? Here, bhikkhus, a noble disciple possesses unwavering confidence (aveccappasāda) in the Buddha thus: "Indeed, that Blessed One is … the teacher of devas and humans, the Buddha, the Blessed One." This is the first stream of merit, stream of the wholesome, nutriment of happiness.
Furthermore, bhikkhus, a noble disciple … in the Dhamma … in the Saṅgha …. He possesses the virtues dear to the noble ones — unbroken … conducive to concentration (samādhi). This is the fourth stream of merit, stream of the wholesome, nutriment of happiness. These, bhikkhus, are the four streams of merit, streams of the wholesome, nutriments of happiness.
