Suttapiṭaka · Saṁyuttanikāya · Mahāvaggasaṁyutta · Vol. 19 · Section 264

[264] Setting at Sāvatthī. Bhikkhus, just as whatever actions requiring strength are done, all of them are done in dependence on the earth, established upon the earth — it is thus that these actions requiring strength are done. In the same way, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu, in dependence on virtue (sīla), established upon virtue, develops the Noble Eightfold Path (ariya aṭṭhaṅgika magga), and cultivates the Noble Eightfold Path.
