[314] Bhikkhus, it is for the direct knowledge, for the full understanding, for the utter destruction, and for the abandoning of these three discriminations (vidhā) that the Noble Eightfold Path is to be developed. And what is the Noble Eightfold Path? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu develops right view … develops right concentration (samādhi), which is based upon seclusion, based upon dispassion, based upon cessation, maturing in release. It is for the direct knowledge, for the full understanding, for the utter destruction, and for the abandoning of these three discriminations … that this Noble Eightfold Path is to be developed.
