Kuṇḍaliyasutta

Suttapiṭaka · Saṁyuttanikāya · Mahāvaggasaṁyutta · Vol. 19 · Section 399

[399] "And how, Kuṇḍaliya, are the seven factors of awakening (bojjhaṅga) developed, how are they cultivated, so that they fulfill true knowledge and liberation (vijjāvimutti)? Here, Kuṇḍaliya, a bhikkhu develops the awakening factor of mindfulness, dependent on seclusion (viveka), dependent on dispassion (virāga), dependent on cessation, maturing in relinquishment (vossagga) … he develops the awakening factor of equanimity, dependent on seclusion, dependent on dispassion, dependent on cessation, maturing in relinquishment. It is when the seven factors of awakening are developed in this way, Kuṇḍaliya, cultivated in this way, that they fulfill true knowledge and liberation."
