[452] "And how, bhikkhus, are the seven factors of awakening (bojjhaṅga) developed, how are they cultivated, so that they lead to the cessation of craving (taṇhā)? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu develops the awakening factor of mindfulness (sati), dependent on seclusion (viveka), dependent on dispassion (virāga), dependent on cessation, maturing in release (vossagga) … he develops the awakening factor of equanimity (upekkhā), dependent on seclusion, dependent on dispassion, dependent on cessation, maturing in release. It is when the seven factors of awakening are developed in this way, bhikkhus, cultivated in this way, that they lead to the cessation of craving."
