[541] And what, bhikkhus, is the denourishment (anāhāra) that prevents the unarisen investigation of dhammas as a factor of awakening (dhammavicaya-sambojjhaṅga) from arising, and prevents the arisen investigation of dhammas as a factor of awakening from reaching fulfillment by development? There are, bhikkhus, dhammas that are wholesome and unwholesome, dhammas that are blameworthy and blameless, dhammas that are inferior and superior, dhammas that are dark and bright with their counterparts: not frequently giving attention (manasikāra) to them — this is the denourishment that prevents the unarisen investigation of dhammas as a factor of awakening from arising, and prevents the arisen investigation of dhammas as a factor of awakening from reaching fulfillment by development.
