[6] "And how, Ānanda, does a bhikkhu who has a good friend (kalyāṇamitta), a good companion, a good comrade develop the Noble Eightfold Path (ariya aṭṭhaṅgika magga) and make much of the Noble Eightfold Path? Here, Ānanda, a bhikkhu develops right view (sammādiṭṭhi) dependent on seclusion (viveka), dependent on dispassion (virāga), dependent on cessation, maturing in release (vossaggapariṇāmī); he develops right intention (sammāsaṅkappa) dependent on seclusion … he develops right speech (sammāvācā) … he develops right action (sammākammanta) … he develops right livelihood (sammā-ājīva) … he develops right effort (sammāvāyāma) … he develops right mindfulness (sammāsati) … he develops right concentration (sammāsamādhi) dependent on seclusion, dependent on dispassion, dependent on cessation, maturing in release. It is in this way, Ānanda, that a bhikkhu who has a good friend, a good companion, a good comrade develops the Noble Eightfold Path and makes much of the Noble Eightfold Path."
