[924] Bhikkhus, those ascetics or brahmins who understand the pleasure faculty (sukhindriya), understand the origin of the pleasure faculty, understand the cessation of the pleasure faculty, and understand the way of practice leading to the cessation of the pleasure faculty; who understand the pain faculty (dukkhindriya) …; who understand the joy faculty (somanassindriya) …; who understand the grief faculty (domanassindriya) …; who understand the equanimity faculty (upekkhindriya), understand the origin of the equanimity faculty, understand the cessation of the equanimity faculty, and understand the way of practice leading to the cessation of the equanimity faculty — those ascetics or brahmins, bhikkhus, I regard as ascetics among ascetics and as brahmins among brahmins; and those venerable ones, having realized it for themselves with direct knowledge (abhiññā), in this very life enter upon and dwell in the goal of asceticism and the goal of brahminhood.
