[913] Bhikkhus, whatever ascetics or brahmins understand the eye faculty (cakkhundriya), understand the origin of the eye faculty, understand the cessation of the eye faculty, and understand the way of practice leading to the cessation of the eye faculty; understand the ear faculty (sotindriya) … the nose faculty (ghānindriya) … the tongue faculty (jivhindriya) … the body faculty (kāyindriya) … the mind faculty (manindriya), understand the origin of the mind faculty, understand the cessation of the mind faculty, and understand the way of practice leading to the cessation of the mind faculty — those ascetics or brahmins, bhikkhus, are regarded as ascetics among ascetics and as brahmins among brahmins; and those venerable ones, having realized it for themselves with direct knowledge, in this very life enter upon and dwell in the goal of asceticism and the goal of brahminhood.
