[249] One who is fully ordained (upasampanna), not desiring to abuse one who is fully ordained, not desiring to disparage him, not desiring to humiliate him, but desiring to jest, speaks thus: he says, "We are not caṇḍālas, not bamboo-workers (veṇā), not hunters (nesādā), not chariot-makers (rathakārā), not refuse-removers (pukkusā)" … He says, "We are not wise, not competent, not intelligent, not learned, not speakers on the Dhamma; there is no bad destination for us; only a good destination is to be expected for us" — there is an offense of wrong speech (dubbhāsita) for every phrase uttered.
