[250] One who is fully ordained (upasampanna), not wishing to insult (khuṃsetukāmo), not wishing to revile, not wishing to humiliate one not fully ordained (anupasampanna), but out of a desire for jest (davakamyatā), addresses the low with what is low … addresses the high with what is low … addresses the low with what is high … addresses the high with what is high — that is, addresses one who is wise, competent, intelligent, learned, a speaker of Dhamma, saying: "You are wise, you are competent, you are intelligent, you are learned, you are a speaker of Dhamma; there is no bad destination for you; only a good destination is to be expected for you" — there is an offense of wrong speech (dubbhāsita) for each utterance.
