[510] When it is the wrong time (vikāla), and he perceives it as the wrong time, if he chews or eats hard food (khādanīya) or soft food (bhojanīya), he commits an offense of pācittiya. When it is the wrong time, and he is in doubt, if he chews or eats hard food or soft food, he commits an offense of pācittiya. When it is the wrong time, and he perceives it as the right time, if he chews or eats hard food or soft food, he commits an offense of pācittiya.
If he accepts what may be consumed within a watch of the night (yāmakālika), what may be consumed within seven days (sattāhakālika), or what may be consumed for as long as life lasts (yāvajīvika) for the purpose of food, he commits an offense of dukkaṭa. For every act of swallowing, he commits an offense of dukkaṭa.
When it is the right time, and he perceives it as the wrong time, he commits an offense of dukkaṭa. When it is the right time, and he is in doubt, he commits an offense of dukkaṭa. When it is the right time, and he perceives it as the right time, there is no offense.
