[509] **"Whoever"** means: whoever, of whatever sort … **"Bhikkhu"** means: … this is the one intended in this sense as "bhikkhu."
**"The wrong time (vikāla)"** means: from when midday has passed until the arising of dawn.
**"Chewable food (khādanīya)"** means: setting aside the five staple foods (bhojana), that which may be consumed within a watch of the night (yāmakālika), that which may be consumed within seven days (sattāhakālika), and that which may be consumed as long as life lasts (yāvajīvika), the remainder is called chewable food.
**"Soft food (bhojanīya)"** means: the five staple foods — boiled rice, porridge (kummāsa), roasted-grain meal (sattu), fish, and meat.
If he receives it, thinking, "I shall chew it, I shall eat it," there is an offence of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa). For each and every mouthful swallowed, there is an offence of pācittiya.
