[540] **"Whoever"** means: whoever, of whatever sort … **"Bhikkhu"** means … this is the bhikkhu intended in this meaning.
**"Woman" (mātugāma)** means: a human female, not a female yakkha, not a female peta, not a female animal; even a girl born that very day, still more an older one.
**"With"** means: together.
**"Private" (raho)** means: private to the eye, private to the ear.
**Private to the eye** means: it is not possible to see [them] when an eye is winked, an eyebrow is raised, or the head is raised.
**Private to the ear** means: it is not possible to hear ordinary talk.
**A "concealed" seat** means: it is concealed by a wall, by a door, by a matting screen, by a screening curtain, by a tree, by a pillar, by a grain-bin, or concealed by anything whatsoever.
**"Should sit down"** means: when a woman is seated and a bhikkhu sits down close by or lies down close by, there is an offense of pācittiya. When a bhikkhu is seated and a woman sits down close by or lies down close by, there is an offense of pācittiya. If both are seated, or both are lying down, there is an offense of pācittiya.
