[728] **Whoever**: whoever, of whatever sort … . **Bhikkhu**: … this is the bhikkhu intended in this sense.
**Knows** means: he knows by himself, or others inform him, or that person [the donor] informs him.
**Belonging to the Saṅgha (saṅghika)** means: it has been given to, relinquished for, the Saṅgha.
**Gain (lābha)** means: robes, almsfood, lodging, and medicinal requisites for the sick — even so much as a lump of powder, a tooth-stick, or a thread from a fringe.
**Destined (pariṇata)** means: the donors have uttered the words, "We shall give, we shall make [it over]." Should he divert it to an individual, he commits an offense of pācittiya.
