[150] Bhikkhus, these five dhammas lead to the decline of a bhikkhu who is temporarily liberated (samayavimutta). What five? Delight in work, delight in talk, delight in sleep, not guarding the doors of the sense faculties (indriya), and lack of moderation in eating. These, bhikkhus, are the five dhammas that lead to the decline of a bhikkhu who is temporarily liberated. Bhikkhus, these five dhammas lead to the non-decline of a bhikkhu who is temporarily liberated. What five? Not delighting in work, not delighting in talk, not delighting in sleep, guarding the doors of the sense faculties, and moderation in eating. These, bhikkhus, are the five dhammas that lead to the non-decline of a bhikkhu who is temporarily liberated. The Tikaṇḍakī Chapter, the fifth. Its summary (uddāna): Having given, he despises; and he undertakes; with Sārandada, Tikaṇḍakī, and Niraya;¹ the friend, with the bad person and the good person; the temporarily liberated — and two further ones.
