[172] "Bhikkhus, I will teach you what is with taints (āsava) and what is without taints; listen and attend carefully, I will speak." "Yes, venerable sir," those bhikkhus replied to the Blessed One. The Blessed One said this: "And what, bhikkhus, is the state (dhamma) with taints? The destruction of life … wrong view — this, bhikkhus, is called the state with taints. And what, bhikkhus, is the state without taints? Abstention from the destruction of life … right view — this, bhikkhus, is called the state without taints."
