[270] **"Whatever" (yā pana)**: means whoever, whatever sort … . **"Bhikkhunī"**: … this is the bhikkhunī intended in this context.
**"Afflicted" (dukkhitā)**: one who is sick is what is meant.
**"Co-resident" (sahajīvinī)**: a co-dwelling pupil (saddhivihārinī) is what is meant.
**"Should neither care for her"**: should not care for her herself.
**"Nor make an effort to have her cared for"**: should not direct another to do so.
At the mere relinquishing of the responsibility, thinking, "I will neither care for her nor make an effort to have her cared for," there is an offense of pācittiya.
If she neither cares for, nor makes an effort to have cared for, a pupil (antevāsinī) or one not fully ordained (anupasampannā), there is an offense of dukkaṭa.
