Vinayapiṭaka · Bhikkhunī Vibhaṅga · Vol. 3 · Section 278

[278] **"That bhikkhunī"** means: that **bhikkhunī** who lives in company (saṃsaṭṭhā). **"By bhikkhunīs"** means: by other bhikkhunīs — those who see her and those who hear of it; by them she should be admonished thus: "Lady, do not live in company with a householder (gahapati) or with a householder's son. Withdraw, lady; it is only seclusion that the Saṅgha praises for the sister." She should be admonished a second time; she should be admonished a third time. If she relinquishes it, that is good; if she does not relinquish it, there is an offense of wrong-doing (āpatti dukkaṭassa). If, having heard of it, they do not admonish her, there is an offense of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa). That bhikkhunī, having been drawn even into the midst of the Saṅgha, should be admonished thus: "Lady, do not live in company with a householder or with a householder's son. Withdraw, lady; it is only seclusion that the Saṅgha praises for the sister." She should be admonished a second time; she should be admonished a third time. If she relinquishes it, that is good; if she does not relinquish it, there is an offense of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa). [Editorial footnotes in the source: 1. The M. and Yu. editions read *vivicc'ayye*; it appears thus throughout. 2. In the M. and Yu. editions the word *pana* appears here.]
