[63] **"That bhikkhunī"** means: the bhikkhunī who speaks thus.
**"By bhikkhunīs"** means: by other bhikkhunīs. Those who see her and those who hear her should say: "Noble lady, do not, angry and displeased, speak thus: 'I renounce the Buddha … I renounce the training (sikkhā). What, are these the only female ascetics — these female ascetics who are daughters of the Sakyan? There are other female ascetics too, conscientious, scrupulous, desirous of the training; I shall live the holy life (brahmacariya) in their presence.'" She should be told: "Take delight, noble lady! The Dhamma is well proclaimed; live the holy life for the complete making an end of suffering (dukkha)." She should be told a second time; she should be told a third time. If she relinquishes it, that is good; if she does not relinquish it, there is an offense of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa). If, having heard, they do not speak, there is an offense of wrong-doing.
That bhikkhunī, having been drawn even into the midst of the Saṅgha, should be told: "Noble lady, do not, angry and displeased, speak thus: 'I renounce the Buddha … I renounce the training. What, are these the only female ascetics — these female ascetics who are daughters of the Sakyan? There are other female ascetics too, conscientious, scrupulous, desirous of the training; I shall live the holy life in their presence.'" She should be told: "Take delight, noble lady!
