Gabbhinīvaggasikkhābada

Vinayapiṭaka · Bhikkhunī Vibhaṅga · Vol. 3 · Section 393

[393] **"Whatever" (yā pana):** whoever, of whatever sort … **"Bhikkhunī":** … this is the bhikkhunī intended in this context. **"Co-religionist" (sahajīvinī):** she who is called a co-resident pupil (saddhivihārinī). **"Having sponsored" (vuṭṭhāpetvā):** having given the full ordination (upasampadā). **"For two years" (dve vassāni):** for two twelvemonths. **"Should neither assist" (neva anuggaṇheyya):** should not herself assist — by recitation (uddesa), by interrogation (paripucchā), by exhortation (ovāda), or by instruction (anusāsanī). **"Nor have her assisted" (na anuggaṇhāpeyya):** should not command another. At the mere casting off of the responsibility, thinking, "For two years I will neither assist nor have her assisted," there is an offense of pācittiya.
