[512] What is the signless liberation (animitto vimokkho)? The knowledge (ñāṇa) of the contemplation of impermanence (aniccānupassanā) is released from the sign (nimitta) as permanent; thus it is the signless liberation. The knowledge of the contemplation of suffering (dukkha) is released from the sign as pleasant; thus it is the signless liberation. The knowledge of the contemplation of non-self (anattā) is released from the sign as self; thus it is the signless liberation. The knowledge of the contemplation of disenchantment (nibbidā) is released from the sign as delight (nandī); thus it is the signless liberation. The knowledge of the contemplation of dispassion (virāga) is released from the sign as lust (rāga); thus it is the signless liberation. The knowledge of the contemplation of cessation (nirodha) is released from the sign as origin; thus it is the signless liberation. The knowledge of the contemplation of relinquishment (paṭinissagga) is released from the sign as grasping (ādāna); thus it is the signless liberation.
