At that time I was a garland-maker, Asita by name;
taking up a chaplet (āveḷa), I went to present it to the king.
Before I had reached the king, I saw Sikhī, the Leader;
delighted, with a delighted mind, I offered it up to the Buddha.
In the thirty-first aeon (kappa) from now, since I offered that flower,
I know of no bad destination (duggati): this is the fruit of the offering to the Buddha (buddhapūjā).
In the twenty-fifth aeon from now, I was a king of great might,
Vebhāra by name, a universal monarch (cakkavatti) of great might.
The four analytic insights (paṭisambhidā), these eight liberations (vimokkha) too,
and the six superknowledges (chaḷabhiññā) have been realized: the Buddha's dispensation (sāsana) has been fulfilled.
Thus indeed did the Venerable Sukatāveḷiya, the Elder, speak these verses.
