[186] Which phenomena (dhammā) are wholesome (kusalā)? On the occasion when one develops the path (magga) for rebirth in the form sphere (rūpūpapatti) — not percipient of form internally (ajjhattaṃ arūpasaññī), one sees forms externally that are measureless (appamāṇāni); mastering them (abhibhuyya), [one is percipient:] 'I know, I see' — and, quite secluded from sensual pleasures, … enters and dwells in the first jhāna, of painful practice and sluggish direct knowledge (dukkhāpaṭipadaṃ dandhābhiññaṃ), limited (parittaṃ), with a measureless object (appamāṇārammaṇaṃ) — on that occasion there is contact (phassa) … there is non-distraction (avikkhepa) … These phenomena are wholesome.
