On the occasion when one develops the supramundane (lokuttara) jhāna that leads out (niyyānika), conducing to dispersal (apacayagāmī), for the abandonment of wrong views (diṭṭhigata), for the attainment of the first plane (bhūmi), and — quite secluded from sensual pleasures … — enters upon and dwells in the first jhāna, of painful practice and sluggish direct knowledge (dukkhāpaṭipadā dandhābhiññā), with zeal (chanda) as dominant … with energy as dominant … with mind (citta) as dominant … with investigation (vīmaṃsā) as dominant: on that occasion there is contact (phassa) … there is non-distraction (avikkhepa) … These phenomena are wholesome. …
