[41] What at that time is the power of energy (viriya-bala)?
That which at that time is the mental (cetasika) arousing of energy (viriyārambha), striving (nikkama), endeavor (parakkama), exertion (uyyāma), effort (vāyāma), zeal (ussāha), perseverance (ussoḷhī), vigor (thāma), steadfastness (dhiti), unslackening endeavor (asithila-parakkamatā), the state of not relinquishing desire (anikkhitta-chandatā), the state of not laying down the task (anikkhitta-dhuratā), firm upholding of the task (dhura-sampaggāha), energy (viriya), the faculty of energy (viriyindriya), the power of energy, right effort (sammā-vāyāma) — this at that time is the power of energy.
